Set up the AI receptionist
Your AI can answer calls with the same knowledge, tone and actions it uses in chat. You choose whether it answers every call or only the ones your team misses.
Before you start
- You have a Chattoko phone number.
- Your FAQs and business details are in Brain: the phone AI answers from them.
Steps
Open Call ▸ AI Agent.
Turn on AI answers calls.
Choose an AI voice and press Preview to hear a sample (some voices you'll first hear on a call). Fill in Agent name only if the AI should call itself something else on calls than in chat.
Under Call script, write the Greeting. Say that it's a virtual AI assistant, so callers know they're talking to an AI.
Under Transfer to a human, pick what When the AI passes a caller to your team does: Ring your team or Take an urgent message straight away.
Open Advanced to turn on AI takes messages, and to set Stop AI answering after (minutes / month).
Press Save AI Agent settings.
Open Call ▸ Settings. Under Quick start, pick AI answers first for every call, or Small team, AI backup so the AI answers when nobody picks up.
Check the steps under When a call comes in, then press Save settings.
Check it worked
In Call ▸ Settings, under Call me to test, enter your mobile and press Call me now. Answer, say hello, and you hear exactly what callers hear. Test calls don't use your plan's call minutes.
If it didn't work
- The AI is on but never picks up.
- No step in When a call comes in uses it. Pick Your AI, on every call under 2. Who answers first, or Your AI answers under 4. If nobody answers, or nobody is available, and save.
- The AI stopped answering partway through the month.
- It reached Stop AI answering after (minutes / month) or your plan's AI voice minutes. Calls then go to your team or voicemail. Raise your own limit under Advanced, or see Billing & Plans.
- Callers hear a notice before the AI speaks.
- Chattoko always plays a short legal notice when calls are recorded, transcribed or answered by AI. It can't be switched off.
