Add the chat to any website
Any website that lets you add code can show the Chattoko chat. You paste one line once, and the chat button appears on every page that carries it.
Before you start
- Access to your website's code, footer settings or site builder.
- Your Chattoko workspace with an active plan or trial.
- On Shopify? Don't paste code: use the app embed instead.
Steps
Open Settings ▸ Installation.
Find HTML Embed (Any Website) and press Copy code.
Paste the code just before the closing </body> tag, in the part of your site that every page shares (often the footer or main template).
On Wix, go to Settings ▸ Custom Code ▸ Add Custom Code and paste it into Body - End.
On Squarespace, go to Settings ▸ Advanced ▸ Code Injection → Footer and paste it there.
Using Google Tag Manager? Copy the Google Tag Manager code, add it as a Custom HTML tag, and set it to fire on All Pages.
Publish your site, then open it in a new tab and look for the chat button.
Check it worked
Send a message from the chat on your site. It appears in your Inbox within seconds. Test Widget in Settings ▸ Installation also opens your chat on a test page.
If it didn't work
- No chat button shows.
- Check that your plan or trial is active and that Live chat (widget + chat page) is on under Contact channels in Settings ▸ Installation. Then check your browser console for errors.
- The button shows on desktop but not on phones (or the other way).
- Open Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Visibility and position. On the Desktop and Mobile tabs, check that Display is on, then press Save changes.
- My site has a strict Content Security Policy.
- Allow data: in font-src (or in default-src if there is no font-src), alongside https://fonts.gstatic.com. The chat carries its icon font inline.
