Add the chat to WordPress
On WordPress, the chat is one line of code added to every page. Here's how to add it yourself in a few minutes.
Before you start
- An administrator login for your WordPress site.
- Your Chattoko workspace with an active plan or trial.
Steps
In Chattoko, open Settings ▸ Installation and find the WordPress card.
Press Copy code. The code starts with a note naming the two ways to add it.
Easiest: in WordPress, install a header-and-footer plugin from Plugins ▸ Add New Plugin, such as WPCode – Insert Headers and Footers.
Open the plugin's settings, paste the code into its footer box, and save.
Or, if you edit your theme's files, paste the code into footer.php just before the closing </body> tag, and save.
Open your website in a new tab and look for the chat button.
Check it worked
Visit a few pages of your site. The chat button shows on every one, and a test message appears in your Inbox.
If it didn't work
- The card mentions a Chattoko plugin I can't find.
- It isn't out yet. Add the code as above for now.
- My theme has no footer.php.
- Block themes don't use footer.php. Use a header-and-footer plugin instead.
- The chat disappeared after a theme update.
- Updates can replace your theme's files, and the code with them. Paste it again, or move it into a header-and-footer plugin so updates don't touch it.
